About
Teardrop glasses influence your emotional state by altering people's perceptions, as if they were shedding tears. This artwork changes the impression of a video depending on the timing of dropping tears from glasses, and augments our viewing experience. The video playing on the display has no deliberate story, but the feedback of tears may make the user imagine a different view of the story. People may feel melancholy about the actor walking alone at the park, or may be moved by looking at the full moon in the dark sky. Do all of your emotions really come from inside?
In this work, we focus on the effect of shedding tears on evoked emotion. The action of shedding tears is associated with the expression of several emotional states, such as "sadness", "loneliness", and "happiness". There is a strong relationship between tears and human emotions. Thus, we thought that we can influence and manipulate our emotional state by letting people recognize as if they were shedding tears. The sensor which is attached to the display detects the video scene change, and then sends it to the eyeglasses using infrared communication. Then, the eyeglasses start to drop tears. This kind of feedback can reproduce emotions which are confined to objects, and you can re-experience them. Moreover, it is possible to make you have wrong impression to the meaningless event.
